Responsibilities
- Plans and implements motivating and creative age-appropriate activities to address goals as outlined in each student's IEP, including vocational opportunities, community-based learning experiences, MA curriculum frameworks, and service-learning projects.
- Collaborates with other teachers and therapists to implement an integrated educational/therapeutic model.
- Develops lesson plans, progress reports, and IEPs within specified timelines as directed.
- When scheduled, performs MCAS alternate assessments.
- Creates a learning environment where students are stimulated and motivated to work to their best potential.
- Designs and implements appropriate academic and social goals for all students.
- Facilitates interactions among children that provide opportunities for emotional, social, and cognitive growth.
- Collaborates with other educators and specialists in the planning, adapting, and teaching of curriculum for all learners and guides classroom staff in the implementation of goals.
- Maintains data records on each student's progress in order to write accurate evaluations and/or progress reports.
Requirements
- Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Special Education.
- Valid Certification from the MA Department of Education as a Special Education Teacher.
- Valid Certification in Severe/Profound disabilities OR Mild/Moderate disabilities with willingness to pursue Severe/Profound disabilities certification (tuition reimbursement offered).
- A minimum of 2-3 years teaching experience, with prior experience working with children with and without disabilities in an inclusive environment preferred.
- Knowledge of MA Curriculum Frameworks and MCAS alternate assessments.
- Current CPR and First Aid certification.
