About the Role

This position is located at the Chester County Learning Center in Coatesville, PA, specifically within the Options Program teaching secondary science. The Learning Center serves students ages 13-22 with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) who have been unsuccessful in their home districts. The Options Program supports students experiencing mental health issues, helping them develop skills to manage behavior, meet learning objectives, maintain emotional stability, and overcome challenges such as drug and alcohol issues.

Responsibilities

  • Instruct individuals and groups in special education skill and subject areas, with a focus on secondary science.
  • Plan curriculum, lessons, and special education programs and teaching methods.
  • Evaluate and monitor student progress based on classroom performance, test scores, and observation of behavior.
  • Support objectives and interventions of the educational program.
  • Maintain a safe physical environment in the classroom.
  • Maintain contact with parents and/or professionals concerning student progress.
  • Develop IEPs addressing specific academic, behavioral, and speech needs of students when appropriate.
  • Prepare report cards, educational records, classroom observation records, and other required documentation.
  • Function as an integral member of the treatment/IEP team to address student needs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in education (required).
  • Valid PA Special Education Certificate (7-12 or N-12) (required).
  • Valid PA Instructional Certificate (required if Special Education Certificate is 7-12).
  • Valid PA Instructional Certificate in Secondary Science (highly preferred).
  • Experience teaching science (preferred).
  • Experience with secondary students (preferred).
  • Experience working with children and adolescents with severe and complex behavior challenges in school, community, or residential settings (preferred).
  • Current police, child abuse, and FBI fingerprint clearances (required).

Pay

Salary for the 2026-2027 school year (Professional):

  • Instructional I: $62,155 - $89,730
  • Instructional II: $64,834 - $93,324
  • Master’s degree: $69,353 - $101,911
  • Master’s degree plus 15 credits: $72,740 - $105,924
  • Master’s degree plus 30 credits: $74,415 - $107,845

Schedule

  • 5 days per week, 7.5 hours per day.
  • 194 days per year for new professional employees, 191 days in the second year, and 190 days in subsequent years.
  • Hours: 7:45 AM – 3:15 PM.
