Special Education Teacher - Resource (Thunder Mountain Middle School)

Full-time (1.0 FTE) certified teaching position at Thunder Mountain Middle School, available August 2026.

About the Role

The successful individual will manage a student caseload on a special education team and demonstrate the ability to contribute to a dynamic and innovative team working effectively to enhance the educational program within the school and the district. This person will be aware of, and able to use, multiple forms of assessment.

Responsibilities

• Manage large caseloads with a variety of exceptionalities
• Apply current research and diverse teaching strategies for special education students
• Collaborate with colleagues in multiple settings
• Engage with parents regarding student concerns
• Implement effective behavior management

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in education
• Valid Alaska teaching certificate with a special education endorsement
• Recent experience managing large caseloads with a variety of exceptionalities
• Flexibility and ability to work with colleagues in multiple settings
• Knowledge of current research in the field
• Appreciation for parental concerns and availability to parents
• Excellent interpersonal skills that promote positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues

Preferred Qualifications

• Recent experience teaching special education
• Understanding of IDEA requirements
