About the role
The Special Education Teacher – Mild to Moderate Support Needs provides specialized academic instruction and support to students with disabilities who access the general education curriculum with accommodations and targeted interventions. This includes students with learning disabilities, attention-related needs, and mild to moderate social-emotional or behavioral challenges. The teacher develops, implements, and monitors Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), ensuring goals are aligned to grade-level standards while addressing each student’s unique needs. Instruction focuses on building foundational academic skills, executive functioning, and self-advocacy to support student success in inclusive settings.
Responsibilities
- Collaborates with general education teachers, related service providers, and families to develop and implement IEPs.
- Delivers small group and individualized instruction tailored to student needs.
- Progress monitors and collects data to inform instructional decisions.
- Evaluates and modifies instruction based on student performance and feedback from stakeholders.
- Ensures compliance with state and federal special education regulations and guidelines.
- Demonstrates strong instructional practices, effective collaboration skills, and the ability to differentiate curriculum.
- Works collaboratively with colleagues to provide inclusive learning environments and promote positive behavior supports.
