Special Education Teacher – Moderate Special Needs and Math (26/27 SY)

About the Role

Position for a certified Teacher of Moderate Special Needs and Math (grades 9-12) with experience instructing students with learning disabilities, social-emotional disabilities, autism, and other special needs. The role involves adapting materials and curriculum, consulting with general education teachers, and designing behavioral management programs within an inclusive instructional model.

Responsibilities

• Provide teamed, small group, or individualized instruction and academic support in mainstream or pullout settings according to students' individualized education plans (IEPs).
• Modify and adapt curricula, materials, and the physical environment to meet individual student needs.
• Complete diagnostic academic testing (formal and informal) as required.
• Participate in IEP Team meetings for assigned or newly referred students.
• Act as Case Manager for designated students, including close communication with parents and staff, and preparation of progress reports, annual review narratives, and IEPs.
• Write specific IEP goals and objectives for assigned or newly referred students.
• Design and implement behavior support plans for selected students.
• Provide consultation services to school staff on modifying curriculum and teaching styles to meet the needs of special education students.
• Attend special needs staff meetings and designated school staff meetings.
• Write IEP progress reports for all assigned students.
• Submit budget requests, inventory data, or required reports as requested by the Program Head.
• Provide small group or individual instruction to special needs students as prescribed in their educational plans.
• Utilize computer technology within the classroom (preferred).

Qualifications

• Massachusetts Teaching Certification: Teacher of Moderate Special Needs and Math (grades 9-12).
• Experience instructing students with learning disabilities, social-emotional disabilities, autism, and other special needs.
• Experience adapting materials and curriculum for special needs students.
• Strong academic and curriculum background.
• Ability to consult with general education teachers regarding the learning needs of special education students.
• Experience designing and implementing behavioral management programs.
• Experience with the inclusive model of instruction and willingness to team-teach.
