Primary Tasks & Major Activities

  • Develop and implement Individual Education Plans (IEP).
  • Provide direct, specialized instruction for students.
  • Perform student individualized assessment and interpretation.
  • Teach academic skills and exhibit strong behavior management skills.
  • Attend and participate in appropriate meetings and staffings.
  • Initiate and complete required paperwork within established timelines.
  • Collaborate with appropriate staff/individuals regarding student programming and services.
  • Delegate and supervise paraprofessionals assigned within the classroom.
  • Work as a team player.
  • Offer individualized and small group instruction and co-teaching in a team environment.
  • Collect and analyze data, and manage behavior effectively.
  • Participate in parent meetings and relevant after-school and evening activities.
  • Evaluate paraprofessionals assigned to the classroom.

Education/Skills/Experience Required

  • Current certification in K-12 Special Education, cross-categorical.
  • Knowledge and expertise in working with various eligibility categories.
  • Previous teaching experience in a classroom with students who have high needs and teaching life skills preferred.
  • Training in behavior management is required.
  • Minimum of three years teaching experience preferred.
  • Competent technical skills.
  • Regular attendance and positive interpersonal relationships with staff, parents, and students.
  • Knowledge of appropriate grade level and functional curriculum associated with the position.
  • Experience with Missouri Assessment Program is preferred.
  • Willingness to be trained in appropriate use of seclusion, isolation, and restraint procedures.
  • Willingness to support the District's Comprehensive School Improvement Plan.
