Special Education Teacher (K-5)

About the role

In consultation with other school personnel, the Special Education Teacher:

• Provides educational services to students with disabilities
• Is responsible for planning, developing, delivering, and evaluating appropriate individualized educational services, learning programs, and instruction in the inclusion, resource, LID, and other instructional settings

Responsibilities

• Planning and providing specially designed instruction to students receiving special education and related services
• Collaborating with related service providers and general education staff in the implementation of accommodations and modifications
• Ongoing communication and collaboration with parents, staff, and administrative staff regarding student planning and progress

Skills

• Knowledge of core academic subject assigned
• Knowledge of curriculum and instruction
• Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior
• Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
• Knowledge of local, state, and federal regulations and policies affecting special education
• Knowledge of current special education practices and methodologies
• Knowledge of educational technology applications

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree required
• Valid Texas Special Education Teaching Certification/Appropriate Board Licensure
• Valid Texas Generalist/Core content Teaching Certification with required endorsements or training for relevant subject and level
• 1–2 years teaching experience preferred

Physical Functions

• Requires but is not limited to standing, sitting, repetitious hand and body movements, bending, squatting, and reaching
• May be required to move or position equipment up to 15 pounds approximately
