Full-time, 187-day licensed position reporting to the building principal, assistant principal, and Special Services Director.
About the Role
To work closely with students with disabilities on a regular basis in an effort to provide them with the physical and emotional support they need to gain the full benefits from the special education program.
Responsibilities
- Instruction and Assessment
- Deliver the instructional program in an organized and effective manner.
- Provide quality work that engages students in learning.
- Teach subject(s) effectively, recognizing and responding to individual differences in students.
- Differentiate instruction for a variety of developmental stages and ability levels.
- Implement adopted curriculum, subject matter standards, and assessment instruments to meet school and district goals.
- Plan lessons in logical sequence.
- Demonstrate knowledge of subjects taught and their relationship to other subjects.
- Reflect on teaching and improve performance continuously.
- Collaborate with other educators to create a complete educational environment.
- Use a variety of assessment techniques to evaluate student performance and improve instruction.
- Ensure all students meet adequate yearly progress as determined by local, state, and federal standards.
- Participate in the referral-to-placement process for students being referred for Child Study.
- Utilize technology in the teaching and learning process.
- Classroom Management
- Provide a safe, orderly, hazard-free, and conducive learning environment.
- Implement approved disciplinary measures consistently.
- Attend yearly restraint training classes provided by the school district.
- Be physically capable of restraining students in crisis situations.
- Communication
- Relate to parents and community members in a positive and helpful manner.
- Communicate in writing, speaking, and presenting clearly and concisely.
- Professional Development
- Participate in self-initiated and school/district-initiated professional growth to maintain licensure and support school improvement.
- Policies and Procedures
- Adhere to district, state, and federal policies and procedures.
- Submit required paperwork efficiently, promptly, and accurately.
- Inventory classroom materials, textbooks, and equipment.
- Other Duties
- Accept co-curricular and extra-curricular duties as assigned by administration.
- Participate in departmental/grade-level teams, school-level teams, and district-level committees as requested.
- Attend school-related functions (e.g., PTA) outside the instructional day.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the administrator or superintendent.
Requirements
- Certified and licensed in accordance with state law and Mississippi Department of Education regulations.
- Licensure and transcripts of credits on file with the Superintendent of Education.
- Pass a criminal background check and current child abuse registry check.
- Satisfactory employment record.
Skills
- Supervises students, teacher assistants, and behavior facilitators.
- Uses standard office equipment such as personal computers, printers, copiers, fax machines, calculators, and telephones.
- Travel to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.
- Works in standard office and school building environments.
Schedule
187 days annually.
