Special Education Teacher in Training

About the role

The Teacher in Training will support the teacher while learning critical skills to design individualized instruction and a comprehensive education program for students with complex disabilities in a self-contained classroom.

Responsibilities

• Ensure student safety
• Support professional interactions
• Implement the program
• Train to conduct assessments and complete required paperwork for an IEP
• Support the teacher in staff supervision
• Participate in interdepartmental coordination of education programs and services
• May serve as a substitute in a classroom

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in related field required, enrolled in a master’s degree Program and working toward obtaining a valid NYS Teacher certificate.
• OR A completed a bachelor's degree in education or a related field and is enrolled in a program leading toward a master's in special education or currently has a New York State teacher certification in Special Education or Students with Disabilities.
