Special Education Teacher - High School

ACCEPT Education Collaborative is a regional non-profit educational organization providing programs and services for students with moderate to severe needs, including autism spectrum disorders, emotional/behavioral needs, global impairments, cognitive/intellectual disabilities, language disorders, ADHD/ADD, and nonverbal learning disability.

About the role

To provide educational and behavioral consultation services to help ACCEPT programs build capacity to serve students with low incidence disabilities.

Responsibilities

• Conduct educational assessments, write reports, and present findings at Team meetings.
• Construct lesson plans that meet the standards of MA frameworks and include necessary differentiation based on students’ assessed abilities.
• Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEP) for each student assigned.
• Prepare quarterly progress reports and report cards.
• Collaborate with related service providers and coordinate services for assigned students.
• Provide information and support to parents, colleagues, administrators, and District liaisons as appropriate.
• Coordinate completion of progress reports and Team meeting materials with related service providers.
• Prepare and plan instruction aligned with State Frameworks and IEPs.
• Develop and implement student schedules in collaboration with the Assistant Director of Special Education to ensure meaningful addressing of student goals.
• Create a differentiated learning environment adapted to individual student’s learning needs, strengths, learning style, and communication and behavioral needs.
• Establish a learning environment with embedded visual supports and routines to maximize student independence.
• Collect baseline data for academic, behavioral, and social areas through formative and summative assessments; analyze data and implement necessary strategies.
• Analyze student behavior through data collection, classroom observations, and collaboration with colleagues; adjust classroom management techniques and implement interventions to improve behavioral outcomes.
• Manage classroom crisis and resolve conflict.
• Prepare students for transition to the next grade.
• Supervise, train, and coach Teaching Assistants.
• Respond to all email requests within 24 hours.
• Occasional travel between all of the collaborative’s locations.
• Other related duties as assigned by the supervisor or the Executive Director.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree (B.A./B.S.) from an accredited university.
• Valid Massachusetts Teacher of Students with Moderate and/or Severe Disabilities License.
• Minimum of 1 year experience as a Special Education Teacher or relevant role.
• Experience working with children with a wide range of disabilities.
• Proven ability to use data to develop, implement, and track progress related to Individualized Education Programs (IEP).
• A patient, resilient, resourceful, collaborative, and compassionate personality.
• Excellent ability to stay calm in stressful situations.
• Great interpersonal and communication skills.

Physical Demands

• Regularly required to move about and traverse occasionally throughout the school building.
• Often remain in a stationary position for considerable periods of time.
• Occasionally required to reach with hands and arms, sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
• Perform physical restraint of a student at times of behavioral escalation.
• Expected to lift at least 20 lbs (e.g., books, school supplies).
• Frequently use hands to finger, handle, or feel; use hand strength to grasp tools.
• Operate a computer and other office productivity machinery (e.g., calculator, copy machine, computer printer).
• Input information into a computer and read material from a computer monitor as well as handwritten or printed matter with or without visual aids.
• Communicate effectively with students, parents, and staff in person and on the telephone.
• In the classroom, must be able to see and hear on a continuous basis to ensure student safety and speak frequently to provide instruction.
• On rare occasions, may need to move quickly/run across even or uneven surfaces.

Work Environment

The employee will be working in a normal school environment with an acceptable level of noise.

Pay

$49,000 to $104,000 per year.
