About the role
Plans and provides appropriate learning experiences for students with disabilities in a variety of educational settings. Creates a flexible program and learning environment that provides specialized instruction for students with disabilities.
Responsibilities
- Creates an educational climate that promotes success, independence, a productive atmosphere, and provides students with encouragement, safety, and stimulation.
- Completes weekly lesson plans based on a developmentally appropriate curriculum following the New York State Education Department Learning Standards.
- Creates an Individual Education Plan (IEP) and Functional Behavior Assessment (FBA) for all students.
- Prepares lessons and other instructional materials to meet individual needs of students based upon their IEP.
- Demonstrates adequate knowledge of subject matter, ability to think critically, and individualized instruction.
- Creates, implements, and shares effective behavior management techniques or plans.
- Acts as team leader of classroom staff including assistants, therapists, and social workers.
- Conducts regular community meetings (Sanctuary based) and team meetings.
- Communicates effectively with parents (through notebooks, phone calls, conferences, district meetings, etc.).
- Completes log notes based on student goals as per the IEP (progress and/or regression).
- Completes Quarterly Progress Reports on all students distributed to parents and the school districts.
- Completes Annual Review Reports/Amendments/Regression Statements for school districts (including writing appropriate observable and measurable child-centered goals).
- Participates in and shares appropriate information at CPSE/CSE meetings with school districts.
- Mentors and trains new teachers as requested by supervisor.
- Maintains client confidentiality within HIPAA/FERPA and agency guidelines.
- Performs any other duty as assigned by your supervisor.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Education or similar field. Must obtain a Master's degree per NYSED guidelines.
- NYS Special Education Teacher Certification within 6 months of start date.
- No experience required, though 3-5 years is preferred.

Physical Requirements
The overall nature of the position is sedentary, requiring little physical effort with occasional light physical exertion.
- Constant physical demand: sitting.
- Frequent physical demands: standing, walking, climbing, talking, hearing, repetitive motions, and eye/hand/foot coordination.
- Occasional physical demands: lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, balancing, stooping, crouching, reaching, handling, grasping, and feeling.
- Little, if any, exposure to environmental conditions.
Pay
Salary range: $44,000 – $60,000 per year.
