Compensation
Minimum annual compensation: $53,525 on the 26–27 TE Salary Schedule. Length of contract: 192 days. Employment type: Exempt.
About Our District
The Madison Metropolitan School District is the second largest in Wisconsin, serving a diverse population of more than 25,000 students. Over half are students of color, nearly half come from low-income households, about one third are English Language Learners, and more than 100 languages are represented in its schools.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Use standards (CCSS, SELS, Language) to identify common learning targets representing what all students should know, do, and understand
- Use knowledge of students’ backgrounds, interests, styles, cultures, languages, individual needs, and assessment data to inform planning
- Develop daily and weekly plans to support student growth toward mastery of standards
- Develop common year-long/course plans that identify essential questions and resources to support learning
- Establish clear objectives for lessons, units, and projects and communicate them to students
- Instruct students individually and in groups using lectures, discussions, and demonstrations to build engagement, collaboration, and independence with complex tasks
- Adapt teaching methods and materials to meet students’ varying needs and interests
- Provide daily opportunities for students to describe reasoning, share explanations, make conjectures, justify conclusions, argue from evidence, and negotiate meaning
- Define and plan formative assessments to show evidence of learning
- Use multiple ways to check for understanding and adjust instruction based on gathered information
- Provide meaningful feedback that reinforces effort, recognizes progress, and promotes involvement
- Offer opportunities for teacher-to-student, student-to-student, and student-to-teacher feedback both orally and in writing
- Analyze data and adjust instruction based on student achievement, observation, and teacher practice data
- Establish rules for behavior and procedures for maintaining order
- Meet with parents/guardians to discuss student progress and determine priorities and resource needs
- Collaborate with all staff in support of student learning, including team planning and co-teaching

Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree; official transcripts required for formal employment
- Wisconsin DPI teaching license in Special Education
- Applications considered on a rolling basis; preference given to fully licensed applicants
- Unlicensed candidates may be considered but must obtain a One-Year License with Stipulations through DPI within 30 days of hire; district does not provide financial support or endorse specific certification programs
Working Conditions
- May require travel to different district locations and off-site meetings
- May require working evenings, nights, and some weekends
- School-based positions are required to be in-person unless otherwise directed by the building principal
Physical Requirements
- Ability to work in generally safe and comfortable conditions with minimal environmental risk
- Lift up to 25 pounds occasionally; walking, sitting, stooping, or reaching as needed
- Manual dexterity for operating office equipment; may be stationary for extended periods
- Work in varied indoor and outdoor environments year-round, including inclement weather, spaces without air conditioning, and areas with fluctuating temperatures
