SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHER BA/BS – SCHOOL AGE PROGRAM
The Role
The Teacher sets up the classroom, structures the schedule, and follows procedures in setting up program books and data collection systems for the purpose of implementing the IEPs of the students in the class.
The Teacher develops and uses appropriate or recommended behavior management systems, behavior support plans, reinforcement schedules, positive teaching techniques, etc. in accordance with Brightway Living & Learning policy.
The Teacher plans and implements a daily structured program, incorporating activities to achieve IEP goals and activities to promote generalization.
The Teacher prepares and maintains required records and paperwork (i.e. attendance, student program books, lesson plans, daily data, graphed summaries, parent communication notebooks, anecdotal records, progress reports, educational evaluation, recommended IEP, etc.).
The Teacher communicates regularly with parents/CRP regarding student progress via written communication, phone contacts, school meetings, etc.
The Teacher attends and passes all required trainings, staff meetings, in-services, team meetings, quarterly review meetings, CSE meetings, etc.
The Teacher assures the materials and environmental modifications needed to implement students’ IEP are available.
The Teacher is familiar with and acts in accordance with all policies contained in the School Age Program Handbook for Staff.

- Modify the area to secure the safety of the children i.e. move/push tables and other heavy objects up to 20 lbs.
- Lift/move 20 lbs. (mats)
- Run after students up to 500 feet.
- Run to a classroom in need up to 500 feet.
- Kneel, twist, and bend.
- Respond to fire alarms.
What You Must Be Able To Do

Qualifications
- Must possess a bachelor’s degree and NYS teaching certification in Special Education
- Experience working with developmentally disabled individuals is preferred
- Interest in working with developmentally disabled individuals is required
- Must possess good interpersonal, oral and written communication skills
