Special Education Teacher - Autism (High School) - for the 2026-2027 School Year

About the role

This position serves students with autism spectrum disorder in a high school setting for the 2026-2027 school year.

Responsibilities

• Applies strategies and techniques to foster independence, self-reliance and social skills.
• Delivers lesson plans, presentation of learning materials, and conducts instructional exercises.
• Makes observations and monitors student's progress regarding individual educational plans and goals.
• Maintains an orderly, safe, and positive learning environment.
• Assists students with basic personal care activities such as dressing, toileting, and grooming.
• Operates and assists students in the operation of various instructional aids and media.
• Administers a variety of tests and records results.

Requirements

• Delaware State Certification as: 1573 Teacher of Students with Autism or Students with Severe Intellectual Disabilities.
• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Special Education or related discipline.
• Additional education requirements: 15 credits in autism and severe intellectual disabilities from a regionally accredited college or university.

Qualifications

• Successfully passed PRAXIS II or a valid out-of-state teaching license.
• Completed a competency-based practicum in behaviorally based teaching techniques.
• Ability to engage in self-evaluation and professional growth.

• Understanding of school curriculum and concepts.
• Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.
• Ability to organize and coordinate work.
• Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.
