Long-term substitute position at Upper Moreland Intermediate School, full-time (7.5 hours/day) from August 2026 to November 2026.
About the role
The Autistic Support Teacher (K-12) provides specialized instruction to students with autism, using evidence-based strategies to support communication, social, behavioral, and academic development. The teacher designs and implements individualized education programs (IEPs), adapts curriculum, and monitors student progress. The teacher collaborates with related service providers, staff, and families to create a structured, supportive learning environment that promotes independence and success.
Responsibilities
- Creates a classroom and/or instructional environment that is attractive, safe, supportive, and conducive to the learning, communication, functional, and sensory needs of students.
- Prepares and maintains classroom materials, including educational bulletin boards, web pages, parent/student newsletters, and other communication tools.
- Uses relevant technology to support and differentiate instruction, including student communication.
- Provides research-based specialized instruction aligned with the foundations of ABA to address the instructional goals and objectives contained within each student's IEP.
- Teaches District-approved curriculum and employs the District's philosophy of education, instructional goals, and performance expectations.
- Assesses student progress and determines the need for additional reinforcement or adjustments to instructional techniques.
- Develops lesson plans and instructional materials, employing a variety of techniques and strategies to meet student needs and IEP goals.
- Manages allotted learning time to maximize student achievement and engagement.
- Reflects on practice and student work to improve instruction.
- Assesses students' academic, social, functional, and behavioral growth regularly; maintains records and prepares progress reports; communicates with parents as needed.
- Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by District policy, administrative policy, and Pennsylvania law.
- Seeks support from district specialists when concerns about student progress arise.
- Develops and enforces a code of conduct for the classroom consistent with established Administrative Policies.
- Provides clear behavior expectations and monitors student behavior throughout the class and school.
- Communicates regularly with parents/guardians to discuss student progress and the school program.
- Develops and implements annual Individualized Educational Program (IEP) plans, including present levels of educational performance, special education needs, instructional goals, and required services.
- Facilitates and attends IEP and other related meetings necessary for student assessment and compliance with federal and state law.
- Coordinates the delivery of special education services in each student's IEP and ensures compliance with all legal documents.
- Attends district department and faculty meetings, serves on committees, and participates in school-sponsored activities.
- Actively participates in building or district educational experiences, such as assemblies and arts programs.
- Participates in in-services, staff development activities, and staff meetings as required.
- Maintains an ongoing program of professional growth that satisfies District and personal expectations.
- Collaborates and consults with educational professionals and community service providers regarding student needs.
- Provides consultation to classroom teachers on adaptations, modifications, and interventions for students with disabilities.
- Establishes partnerships with the community to support the Autistic Support Program.
- Assists students with functional needs, including toileting, dressing, and hygiene as per their IEP.
- Demonstrates professionalism and adheres to the Professional Code of Conduct.
- Administers group standardized tests in accordance with the District testing program.
- Coordinates and supports paraprofessionals in the classroom by providing schedules, assignments, and clear direction.
- Follows established policies and procedures for reporting incidents (e.g., child abuse, substance abuse, harassment, and violence).
- Assists with early intervention processes, including IEP development, meetings, and classroom observations.
- Obtains and maintains crisis response certification through the program designated by administration.
- Collaborates with BCBA to develop and implement behavior plans, including maintaining timely data collection.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Building Principal and/or Administration.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in teaching from an accredited institution or related field.
- Pennsylvania Certification in teaching in the appropriate subject area or areas.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to report to work on a regular and punctual basis.
- Knowledge and implementation of relevant technology.
- Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, operate a computer and other office equipment, reach with hands and arms, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Must successfully complete and maintain compliance with all federal and state background and criminal record check requirements.
- Must adhere to all local, state, federal, and school code requirements for employment.
- Ability to perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
Pay
Salary range: $60,325 - $116,695.
Schedule
Full-time, 7.5 hours per day from August 2026 to November 2026.
