Under the direction of the Building Principal and Special Education Coordinator, the Licensed Special Education Teacher develops and provides specialized instruction to meet the unique needs of students with disabilities in Grades K-8.
About the role
Woodland Park Academy is an inclusive school where students spend 80% or more of the day in the General Education classroom. Learning Support Services are provided but not limited to: push-in, pull-out, and consult service modalities.
- Evaluates and assesses student progress against instructional objectives
- Follows State-mandated due process procedures and functions as IEP Manager to assigned students
Responsibilities
- Provide leadership in educational planning
- Prepare lesson plans and organize a meaningful instructional program
- Promote effective relationships with students, staff, and community
- Function effectively in a team and work within the strategic planning process
- Prepare examinations to test student attainment and interpret test results
- Maintain discipline and develop rapport with children of special needs
- Maintain records, and prepare reports and correspondence related to the work
- Communicate effectively with others
- Meet the educational needs of students as stated in the Academy Board of Directors' policies, regulations, and established curriculum
- Meet the special education needs of students
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited university
- Current Michigan teaching certificate (or equivalent) with a special education endorsement in autism, cognitive impairment, emotional impairment, learning disabilities, and/or physical or other health impairments
- Considerable knowledge of the principles and practices of teaching
- Considerable knowledge of subjects and activities required in the field of specialization
- Considerable knowledge of instructional methods applicable to the field of specialization
- Considerable knowledge of the texts, materials, supplies, and equipment necessary in carrying out educational or recreational programs
- Considerable knowledge of current literature, trends, and sources of information in the field of education
- Subject to a criminal records check as required by the Academy Board of Directors' policy and State Law
