About the role

The Diverse Learners Teacher position at CPS is dedicated to providing a high-quality public education for every child, preparing them for success in college, career, and civic life. This role requires a valid teaching license and a commitment to continuous improvement, goal-setting based on IEP guidelines, collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, and fostering a diverse and inclusive classroom environment.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) that align with state guidelines and student needs.
  • Collaborate with case managers, counselors, and general education teachers to address the unique educational and social needs of students.
  • Create a respectful and inclusive classroom culture that supports all students, emphasizing cultural, racial, and linguistic diversity.
  • Select learning objectives and design coherent instruction and assessments that challenge students effectively.
  • Communicate and engage with students through various methods, ensuring they feel supported and motivated.
  • Manage classroom behavior and maintain a safe learning environment according to the Student Code of Conduct.
  • Use technology and curriculum supplements to personalize learning experiences and enhance student engagement.
  • Advocate for the district's vision and contribute to its common themes of equity, cultural competence, high expectations, and student responsibility.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution.
  • A valid teaching license from the Illinois State Board of Education, endorsed in LBS1.
  • Completion of the CPS online application and teaching profile.
  • Able to prioritize student safety and implement the Student Code of Conduct.

Qualifications

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Sound professional judgment, especially in interactions with administration, colleagues, families, and students.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Proficiency in using technology and curriculum supplements to enhance teaching practices.
  • Capacity to advocate for students and their needs.
