SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHER ($5,000 SIGN-ON BONUS)

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement individualized and group instructional activities aligned with each child’s IEP goals
  • Utilize evidence-based instructional strategies to promote academic readiness, communication, social skills, and independence
  • Adapt curriculum, materials, and the physical environment to meet students’ developmental and sensory needs
  • Collect data on student progress and prepare progress reports, IEP documentation, and classroom records as required
  • Maintain a positive, structured, and supportive classroom climate consistent with therapeutic and behavioral best practices
  • Ensure classroom areas are safe, clean, and developmentally appropriate for all activities, including toileting and self-care routines
  • Implement consistent routines to promote predictability, self-regulation, and engagement
  • Supervise and provide daily direction, feedback, and training to teacher assistants, paraprofessionals, and support staff
  • Support students with toileting, diapering, and other self-care needs in a manner that preserves dignity and privacy
  • Implement age-appropriate toilet training routines, reinforcing independence and self-help skills
  • Work collaboratively with related service providers (Speech-Language Pathologists, Occupational Therapists, Physical Therapists, Counselors, etc.) to integrate therapeutic strategies into classroom activities
  • Participate in in-service training, faculty meetings, team meetings, parent-teacher meetings, and school events
  • Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress, routines, and strategies for consistency between home and school
  • Direct arrival and dismissal of children to and from the bus

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in any field required, Master’s Degree in Special Education preferred
  • New York State Certification-Student with Disabilities Birth-Grade 2 (Initial or Professional) or New York State Certification-Student with Disabilities (All Grades-Initial or Professional) or New York State Certification-Special Education Teacher-Permanent
  • Experience with children with autism, severely language impaired, and behavior management issues

Physical Requirements

  • Maintain confidentiality and professionalism consistent with school policies and ethical standards of practice
  • Maintain the order and cleanliness of the classroom environment
  • May be required to lift/move up to 40 pounds or more
  • While performing the duties for this job, the employee is required to communicate clearly and effectively
  • The employee is required to stand, use mobility and reach with hands and arms
  • The employee is occasionally required to sit and stoop, kneel or crouch
