Special Education STEM Teacher

About the role

Elwyn seeks a Special Education Teacher to implement program goals and provide educational instruction to students enrolled in the Davidson School as prescribed in the student's Individual Education Program (IEP) and in accordance with the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) regulations.

Responsibilities

• Contributes to the IEP, specifically in the areas of academic and behavior goals, objectives, and present levels for each assigned student in coordination with the IEP team and other designated school personnel by:
  • adhering to established timelines,
  • conducting academic/curricular based assessments,
  • recording and reporting data,
  • writing academic and behavioral goals and objectives,
  • completing the Present Level of Academic Achievement and Functional Performance (PLAAFP) in line with PDE guidelines and those of the Local Education Agency (LEA) to ensure that student IEPs are current and appropriate.
• Develops, delivers, and differentiates instructional/lesson plans and related activities in support of the students' IEPs by planning activities aligned with the school's curriculum and relevant state standards.
• Designs and implements academic, behavioral, social, and communicative accommodations for students by preparing work materials, collaborating with clinical staff (OT, PT, SLT), and instructing students 1:1 or in small groups.
• Assists students in developing age-appropriate work attitudes and skills by teaching communication methods, social skills, and effective work ethic.
• Contributes to school-wide behavior plans by completing behavioral documentation, participating in Functional Behavior Assessments (FBA), and adhering to Positive Behavior Plans.
• Provides oversight, direction, training, and support to classroom staff, including implementation of the IEP.
• Maintains confidentiality in compliance with FERPA, HIPAA, and other applicable laws.
• Responds to supervision, accepts constructive feedback, and demonstrates professionalism in interactions.
• Establishes and revises professional goals through self-assessment and self-improvement efforts.
• Demonstrates knowledge and flexibility in addressing daily situations involving students, parents, and staff, including de-escalation of behaviors and coordination of activities.
• Participates actively in program meetings, workshops, and in-service presentations.
• Demonstrates knowledge of child development, disabilities, and learning styles by differentiating assignments appropriately.
• Supports and maintains an active parent-teacher relationship through weekly communication via preferred contact methods.
• Ensures student supervision throughout the school day by assigning staff or verifying self-supervision skills.
• Maintains student attendance and lunch choice records in approved systems.
• Maintains student records, including transcripts, data charts, behavior programming, and assessments.
• Supports program-specific policies and procedures by reviewing manuals annually and adhering to them.
• Maintains a safe campus environment by following security protocols and securing entry/exit doors.
• Demonstrates professionalism in attendance by adhering to scheduled start and end times.
• Performs CPR and safe crisis management using agency-trained protocols.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) Special Education certification; or eligibility for PDE emergency certification with Educational Obligation Special Education PK-12.
• Demonstrated experience coordinating data collection and developing IEPs, including planning, writing, and implementation of IEPs, progress monitoring, positive behavior supports, and assessments.
• Experience communicating with families, formally and informally, including engaging families in their child's education program.
• Experience with adaptive technology preferred.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities.
• Strong attention to detail, time management, and organizational skills.
• Excellent judgment with the ability to independently solve problems and make decisions.
• Ability to anticipate needed changes or identify problem areas and take effective actions.
• Experience using electronic student records preferred.
• Current, valid driver's license in state of residence with a minimum of two years of driving experience in the U.S. and an acceptable driving record.
• Ability to perform CPR and Crisis Management using agency-trained protocols.
• Excellent customer interaction, collaboration, presentation, and written/verbal communication skills.
• Basic experience with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint); PowerSchool and IEP Writer experience preferred.

Pay

Pay Range: $53,412 up to $104,800; Special certification required.

Schedule

7:45 am to 3:30 pm. Summer ESY (Extended School Year) is optional and paid extra.
