Join the Mid-Hudson Regional Information Center (MHRIC) as a Special Education Services Specialist I and make a meaningful difference in the lives of students by providing exceptional support to the school districts we serve. As a trusted partner to educators, administrators, and support staff, you will deliver responsive customer service, expert guidance, and hands-on assistance to help districts effectively manage special education services and meet New York State requirements. Through training, problem-solving, relationship-building, and ongoing support, you will help schools leverage technology and data to ensure students receive the services they need to thrive. This role offers the opportunity to build strong partnerships with districts, support compliance and operational excellence, and contribute to positive outcomes for students across the region.

Responsibilities

The position involves assisting component school district administrators and support personnel with the efficient management of special education services. The work includes providing assistance with the coordination and delivery of specialized applications for special education services, supporting districts in tracking and maintaining special education student and Medicaid information, and producing mandated Individual Education Plans (IEPs). Employees generate standardized database lists and reports for compliance with New York State Education Department regulations. The role provides on-site, telephone, or internet support to resolve user-related software problems and training needs.

  • Trains school district administrators and support personnel, one-on-one or in groups, in the use of student reporting services related to special education requirements and Medicaid entitlements.
  • Provides telephone support to school district administrators and support personnel, including instructions on entering data, producing standardized reports, troubleshooting, and diagnosing application problems.
  • Develops district-specific information and prepares documentation for applications, including mandated standardized IEP templates, tables, and data entry forms.
  • Performs tasks at component school districts in support of MHRIC testing and special services, including data entry, report generation, troubleshooting, researching, and testing application problems.
  • Collects information for reports, organizes and prepares database spreadsheets, compiles directories, and creates reference materials to facilitate analysis of special education information.
  • Assists in the development and preparation of meeting and training materials, including lesson plans, schedules, and databases.
  • May train Regional Information Center personnel on PC and web-based applications related to testing and special services.
  • Consults with school district personnel on the maintenance and effectiveness of applications, evaluates enhancement requests, and recommends system modifications.
  • Assists in liaison work between special education and Medicaid program developers and school district personnel to ensure continued compliance with New York State Education requirements.
  • Tracks and reports problems and documents the course of action taken to correct them for sharing in user group meetings.
  • Attends statewide meetings on special education procedures and shares information with district personnel.
  • Stays apprised of current regulatory changes and incorporates them into applications.

Qualifications

Full performance in this role requires the following knowledge, skills, abilities, and personal characteristics:

  • Good knowledge of computer software applications supported by a Regional Information Center.
  • Working knowledge of special education management applications, special education and Medicaid terminology, and processes.
  • Working knowledge of the organizational functions, policies, and regulations of a Regional Information Center and component school districts.
  • Working knowledge of available computer technologies and their application to the instructional environment.
  • Working knowledge of the principles and practices of computerized record maintenance.
  • Ability to problem-solve computer user-related issues relative to software technology.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative relations with others.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Poise, tact, and resourcefulness.
  • Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.

Pay

Salary range: $51,879 - $59,289

Schedule

Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM
12-month position
