About the role
The Special Education Teacher works under the supervision of the School Principal and Director/Supervisor of Special Services to maximize the learning experience of students with special needs. This includes academics, social skills, and other needs identified by the IEP team. The teacher implements district-approved curriculum, documents teaching and student progress, addresses individual student needs, and provides a safe and optimal learning environment.
Responsibilities
- Leads and directs the implementation of students' Individual Education Programs (IEPs) and behavior management plans.
- Conducts assessments, testing, and diagnostic examinations to identify learning issues and recommend corrective procedures.
- Participates in Child Study Review Team discussions and assists in developing IEPs for students.
- Collaborates with outside agencies, organizations, and institutions as needed.
- Accomplishes professional development goals by attending seminars, workshops, and professional meetings.
- Maintains accurate and complete records as required by district procedures and applicable laws.
- Encourages parental involvement and ensures effective communication with students, parents, staff, and administrators.
- Collaborates with paraprofessionals and demonstrates strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Manages daily record-keeping and other due-process related tasks.
Qualifications
- Minnesota Certification as a Special Education Teacher.
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in an education discipline applicable to the teaching assignment.
- Preferred: K-12 Minnesota licensure in one of the following domains: Specific Learning Disabilities (SLD), Emotional Behavior Disorders (EBD), Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), or Academic Behavior Strategist (ABS).
- Experience in special education teaching at the appropriate grade level and disability domains preferred.
- Ability to work collaboratively with a team of professionals and manage daily tasks.
