Paraprofessionals/Student Aides assist the Classroom Teacher in educating students and implementing special education or related services for a class, providing direct assistance to students. Duties vary based on the age of students and the nature of their abilities and challenges.
Responsibilities
- Assist in the educational and social development of students under the direction and guidance of classroom teachers.
- Implement St. Lillian Academy Individual Education Plans (SLIP) for students and monitor their progress.
- Provide support for individual students inside and outside the classroom to enable full participation in activities.
- Collaborate with other professionals, such as speech therapists, occupational and physical therapists, and ABA interventionists.
- Assist classroom teachers with maintaining student records, as requested.
- Prepare and display student work.
- Assist with copying materials to support teaching.
- Provide physical assistance to students with special needs (positioning, lifting, transferring, Safety Care techniques).
- Attend staff and team meetings.
- Be proactive in matters relating to health and safety.
- Maintain a safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
- Actively participate in faculty and grade-level or department meetings.
- Supervise students at school activities and events.
- Remain vigilant of students throughout the school day, addressing inappropriate behavior or locations.
- Enhance the school’s reputation by accepting new requests and exploring opportunities to add value.
- Update job knowledge through professional development, publications, and networking.
- Assist with extended care if scheduled.
- Attend annual fundraising activity (Cheers for Children).
- Attend one SLA promotional event during the calendar year.
Requirements
- Teaching and documentation skills.
- Strong reporting, listening, and verbal communication abilities.
- Ability to connect with children and motivate others.
- Vision and adaptability to learn new skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively under direction and cooperatively with others.
- Willingness to assume responsibilities appropriate for the position.
- Set a good example in dress, punctuality, and attendance.
Physical and Environmental Requirements
- Frequent sitting, lifting, carrying, moving, hearing, and speaking.
- Extensive work at a computer display terminal.
- Specific vision abilities: close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
- Moderate noise levels, occasionally loud.
- Occasional exposure to outside weather, wet/humid conditions, temperature fluctuations, fumes, airborne particles, toxic/caustic chemicals, bloodborne pathogens, and infectious diseases.
- Training in Safety Care®, a behavioral safety program for managing behavioral challenges.
Schedule
- 40-hour work week.
- Follows the EBR calendar and closings, with minor adjustments.
Pay
$12.00 - $15.00 per hour
