Special Education Paraprofessional - Minnesota Connections Academy

About the Role

Minnesota Connections Academy (MNCA) is a tuition-free, online public charter school for students in grades K-12 throughout Minnesota. MNCA is a member of the Minnesota Transitions Charter School (MTCS) and is accredited by the North Central Association Commission on Accreditation and School Improvement. The Special Education Paraprofessional will assist teachers with implementing learning experiences that advance the intellectual, emotional, social, and physical development of students with disabilities in a safe, healthy learning environment. This position works directly 1:1 with students to provide supports in general and special education classrooms.

Responsibilities

• Guide and assist students with lessons, activities, and technology tasks under the direction of the teacher.
• Reinforce concepts across settings that were taught in specialized instruction.
• Participate in meetings where communication and implementing strategies are discussed.
• Assist teachers with classroom activities and lessons.
• Adapt and modify coursework under the direction of the teacher.
• Assist teachers with behavior support plan implementation.
• Assist teachers and students with the use of assistive technology to further learning opportunities and expression of knowledge.
• Assist students under the direction of Occupational Therapist and Physical Therapist.
• Perform basic office duties related to the documentation and implementation of specialized programming.
• Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent with 2 years of experience working with children, preferably children with disabilities, and demonstrate highly qualified status; or AA degree with 1 year of experience working with children, preferably children with disabilities.
• Personal Care Assistant certification (upon hire).
• Intermediate computer/keyboarding skills.
• Basic instructional and assistive technology knowledge.
• Advanced reading and writing skills.
• Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
• Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
• Math skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division; ability to compute rate, ratio, percentages, and interpret bar graphs.
• Ability to set priorities and meet deadlines.
• Ability to work in a team environment.
• Ability to relate to students, including those with disabilities.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality of student information at all times.

Pay

The anticipated starting salary range for this position is $18–21 per hour.
