Special Education Paraprofessional - Developmental Cognitive Disability (DCD)/Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)

About the role

This position is a Special Education Paraprofessional at Westwood Schools, supporting students with Developmental Cognitive Disorders and Autism Spectrum Disorder in grades 5-8.

Responsibilities

• Under the supervision of a Special Education teacher, implement behavior plans customized for students to reinforce preferred behavior.
• Perform general data collection tasks for progress monitoring and student success.
• Work with students who have emotional/behavioral challenges in individual, small group, and large group settings, both in general and special education environments.
• Collaborate effectively with an interdisciplinary team while also working independently.
• Provide behavior support to students in collaboration with teachers and school staff.
• Participate in and contribute to team meetings focused on student success and next steps.

Requirements

• Completed 90 quarter or 60 semester college credits, and/or an AA degree in Education, Child Development, Child Psychology, Behavioral Sciences, or a related field; OR a passing score on the ParaPro Assessment (available in the Human Resources Office) AND a high school diploma or GED certificate.
• Ability to pass a pre-work physical and PCA training.
• Training and experience in the use of computers and other technology equipment.
• Ability to act in a leadership role and independently initiate and follow through on tasks with minimal supervision.
• Effective oral and written communication skills for working with students, families, community representatives, and school personnel.

Working Conditions

• Ability to lift 40 pounds.
• Frequent bending and/or twisting.
• Possible need to physically restrain students.

Pay

$20.75–$24.20 per hour. Additional $0.75 per hour differential if the employee holds a bachelor’s degree.
