Primary Responsibilities
- Provides assistance to identified students in general education or special education classrooms.
- Serves as a support to the teacher in reinforcing instructional material initially introduced by the teacher.
- Supervises students in the playground, lunchroom, buses and other non-instructional areas as required and requested by the classroom teacher, principal and assistant principal.
- Collaborates with the teacher in planning for instruction.
- Prepares the classroom for school, stores materials, and gets the classroom ready for the closing of school.
- Collaborates with teachers to coordinate and maintain individual help and assistance to special education students.
- Accompanies special education students to special area classes or to and from buses as needed.
- Attends school district and team meetings, when necessary or appropriate.
- Supports students during independent study, enrichment work, and remedial work set up by the classroom teacher.
- Performs clerical, administrative, and safety tasks for the teacher, including making copies, preparing bulletin boards, filing, cleaning equipment and toys, setting up audio-visual equipment, etc.
- Maintains or modifies a student's curriculum to meet the needs of the student as directed by the teacher.
- Aids special education students during testing and observes and records student progress as needed.
- Maintains a neat and orderly classroom.
- Assists with preparing and maintaining student records when requested.
- Performs other related duties as assigned by the building principal, assistant principal, and teacher.
