Qualifications
- Completed two years of study at an institution of higher education (60 semester credit hours)
- Possesses an associate's (or higher) degree
- OBTAINED A PASSING SCORE OF 457 ON THE EDUCATIONAL TESTING SERVICES (ETS) PARAPRO ASSESSMENT
Responsibilities
- FOLLOWS AND MAINTAINS KNOWLEDGE OF ALL DISTRICT POLICIES AND PROCEDURES
- AIDES STUDENT(S) TO WHOM ASSIGNED IN ANY PHYSICAL TASKS DIRECTED BY SUPERVISOR
- SUPPORTS THE TEACHER ON METHODS, MATERIALS, AND STRATEGIES FOR REINFORCEMENTS ON TARGET CHILDREN AND IMPLEMENTS PLANS DEVELOPED BY THE TEACHER
- AIDES TEACHER, WHEN REQUESTED, IN COMMUNICATION BETWEEN HOME AND SCHOOL
- PARTICIPATES IN ONGOING STAFF DEVELOPMENT
- HELPS PLAN SCHEDULING FOR MEETING THE NEEDS OF STUDENTS; HELPS COLLECT AND/OR PREPARE MATERIALS TO SUPPORT STUDENT LEARNING
- COMMUNICATES REGULARLY WITH TEACHERS AS TO STUDENTS' NEEDS AND PROGRESS
- TREATS ALL INFORMATION ABOUT THE SCHOOL, TEACHERS, CHILDREN, AND THEIR FAMILIES AS STRICTLY CONFIDENTIAL
- OTHER DUTIES, AS ASSIGNED

Job Goal
The Special Education Paraprofessional will endeavor to work closely with one or a few special needs students on a regular basis in order to provide them with the physical help and emotional support they need to gain the full benefits from their educational placement under the direction of the supervising teacher(s).
