SPECIAL EDUCATION PARAEDUCATOR - SUPPORT CENTER

Location: Carson Elementary – Support Center

Rate: PESPA Level 3 • 6.95 hours per day (includes 30-minute unpaid break) • Monday–Friday, 8:05 AM–3:32 PM • 191-day calendar for the 2026/27 school year

About the role

• Provide academic instruction to students with a variety of disabilities ranging from severe to profound.
• Deliver modified curriculum that may include functional academics, daily living skills, prevocational/vocational skills, behavior skills, and social skills.
• Flexibility to ride the bus and may work primarily with one student.

Minimum requirements

To be eligible, candidates must:

• Be at least eighteen years of age.
• Hold a high school diploma or its equivalent.
• Fulfill one of the following:
  • Hold an associate degree or higher from an accredited college or university.
  • Earn 72 quarter credits or 48 semester credits at the 100 level or higher from an accredited college or university.
  • Score 455 or higher on the ETS ParaPro Assessment.
  • Score 220 or higher on the Pearson Paraprofessional assessment (not administered by PSD).
  • Score 65% or higher on The Master Teacher Inc. Paraeducator Online Training Program (not administered by PSD).
  • Complete an apprenticeship as a paraeducator in a program registered with the Washington State Apprenticeship and Training Council.

Proof of qualification

• Upload an official college transcript or a passing score on one of the following assessments:
  • ETS ParaPro Assessment
  • Pearson Paraprofessional Assessment
  • Master Teacher Inc. Paraeducator Online Training Program
• If submitting an assessment score, also provide proof of a high school diploma or its equivalent.

Conditions of employment

• Complete and attain the state-mandated General Paraeducator Certificate.
• Complete 28 hours of Fundamental Course of Study (FCS) training provided by the district:
  • First two days within four months of hire.
  • Second two days within six months of hire or by September 1 of the next school year.
• Earn the general certificate by completing ten days (70 clock hours) of professional development training.
