About the role

The Special Education Paraeducator works closely with individual students or small groups to reinforce learning of material or skills introduced by the teacher. They support the delivery of teacher-designed instruction in various settings and assist with maintaining a structured, safe learning environment.

Responsibilities

• Supervise students during arrival, dismissal, hallways, recess, lunch, bus loading and unloading, and transitions.
• Maintain a clean and sanitary learning environment and follow all safety and infection control procedures.
• Serve as a source of information for substitute teachers and assist in responding to challenging behavior.
• Implement behavior support plans, safety plans, and crisis plans under licensed supervision.
• Assist with positioning, transfers, and use of mobility equipment following OT/PT guidance and safety protocols.
• Participate in collaboration meetings, IEP meetings, staff training, and required professional development.
• Collaborate with teachers, specialists, and related service providers to support student needs.
• Operate and care for equipment used in the classroom for instructional purposes, including assistive technology, communications systems, or adaptive equipment.
• Assist with accurate and timely data collection, including data on IEP goals, behavior plans, and student progress.
• Assist students with personal care needs such as eating, feeding, toileting/diapering, hygiene, dressing, or mobility supports.
• Follow student health plans, including medication assistance as directed by licensed staff or medication support under direction or delegation of the School Nurse.
• Assist with positioning, transfers, and use of mobility equipment following OT/PT guidance and safety protocols.
• Participate in collaboration meetings, IEP meetings, staff training, and required professional development.
