About the role

Special Education Paraprofessionals assist teachers by performing a variety of tasks relating to the physical and instructional needs of the students in a classroom setting. Depending on the classroom and/or building assignment, the Special Education Paraprofessional may support children with various degrees of special needs. This is a 10-month position (August through May), with optional summer work available in June and July. Interested candidates must apply and complete the interview process to be considered for summer employment.

Responsibilities

  • Assist students with basic academics (reading, language and/or math)
  • Assist with the personal care of students if needed (e.g. bathroom, eating, etc.)
  • Attend to student’s health needs and follow individual health plans (e.g. seizure activity, blood sugar monitoring, tube feeding, colostomy bags, etc.) as directed by a healthcare professional
  • Assist in the implementation of instructional programs including daily life skills, self help and behavior
  • Provide sensory interventions under the guidance of therapist and teachers for the purpose of keeping students calm and ready to learn

Requirements

  • Must meet one of the following:
    • 60+ college credit hours or an Associates degree
    • Successful completion of the DESE approved paraprofessional assessment
    • 20-hour substitute teaching certificate
  • Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance

Schedule

  • Monday through Friday
  • Standard office hours (start and end time vary based on the school assigned)
  • 10-month position (August through May), with optional summer work available in June and July
