About the role
The Paraeducator Aide III position requires a high school diploma or equivalent, and completion of specific educational requirements or passing the ParaPro Assessment.
Responsibilities
- Absorb and preview instructional information when possible
- Provide attendant services such as diapering, toileting, washing faces, etc.
- Support instruction in proper health and hygiene habits
- Perform delegated procedures like clean intermittent catheterization and provide emergency and first aid care
- Maintain discipline and order on the playground, lunchroom, library, and classrooms
- Communicate with special education teachers about concerns and observations of students
- Assist in maintaining bulletin boards in the classroom
- May assist children with medication when trained
- Assist in the operation of classroom equipment or students' assistive technology devices
- Assist in recording student progress towards goals and developing instructional materials
- Participate in district training programs and implement non-violent behavioral intervention procedures
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Completed at least 48 semester hours of credit at an accredited college or university
- Obtained an associate's degree or higher degree from an accredited college or university
- Passed the ParaPro Assessment with a score of at least 460
Qualifications
- Knowledge of characteristics of students with disabilities
- Ability to access curriculum for students with hearing impairments
- Skills in using appropriate questioning and discussion techniques based on student's modality of learning
- Knowledge of and ability to effectively utilize and maintain necessary technology and equipment for students with hearing impairments
- Skills in using visual supports, augmentative and alternative communication tools, positive behavioral supports, and structured social interaction
- Knowledge of and ability to effectively utilize and maintain necessary technology and equipment for students with vision impairments
