About the role

The PARAEDUCATOR AIDE III position requires a high school diploma or equivalent, and completion of specific educational or assessment requirements. This role works in a special education classroom, assisting teaching staff in various instructional activities.

Responsibilities

  • Aid in boarding and de-boarding students from buses before and after school.
  • Assist students in reaching proper locations in school.
  • Accompany students into general education classrooms.
  • Provide attendant services such as diapering, toileting, washing faces, etc., as needed.
  • Support instruction in proper health and hygiene habits.
  • Perform delegated procedures like clean intermittent catheterization and provide emergency and first aid care as necessary.
  • Maintain discipline and order on the playground, lunchroom, and classrooms.
  • Communicate with special education teachers about concerns and observations of students.
  • Assist in maintaining bulletin boards in the classroom.
  • May assist children with medication when trained.
  • Assist in the operation of classroom equipment or students' assistive technology devices.
  • Record student progress towards goals and prepare instructional materials.
  • Modify the general education curriculum as needed.
  • Participate in district training programs and implement non-violent behavioral intervention procedures.

Requirements

Must be able to lift and move students weighing up to 80 pounds daily and repetitively. Must follow proper safety procedures and maintain confidentiality regarding student information.

Qualifications

  • Completed at least 48 semester hours of credit at an accredited college or university.
  • Obtained an associate's degree or higher degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Passed the ParaPro Assessment prepared and administered by Educational Testing Services (ETS) with a score of at least 460.

Skills

Knowledge of students with various intellectual and/or physical disabilities, ability to modify general education classroom assignments, and proficiency in positive behavior management techniques are essential.
