About the role
BASIS Leander is seeking a Special Education & Life Skills Teacher to join the inaugural team at BASIS Leander for the 2026/2027 school year. This is a rare and exciting opportunity to help shape the culture, community, and academic success of a new school opening in Fall 2026.
Key Responsibilities
- Direct Services: Provide small-group or one-on-one instruction to meet IEP goals.
- IEP Management: Write, develop, and update IEPs; participate in meetings; ensure compliance with timelines and regulations.
- Collaboration: Work closely with general education teachers to implement accommodations and modifications.
- Progress Monitoring: Collect and report data on IEP goals; maintain accurate documentation.
- Behavioral & Academic Support: Develop and implement intervention plans tailored to student needs.
- Founding Team Collaboration: Play a pivotal role in establishing the school's culture, contributing to school-wide initiatives, and collaborating with fellow founding teachers to create a cohesive and supportive academic community.
- Professional Development: Actively participate in professional learning opportunities and school-wide meetings, continually seeking to improve instructional practices.
- Student Support: Serve as an advisor or mentor, guiding students in their academic and personal growth within the BASIS model.
Qualifications
- A minimum of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university. A Master's degree is highly desirable.
- Valid Texas Special Education certification.
- Fingerprint clearance per Texas state regulations.
- Eligible for hire in Texas Public Schools.
- Exceptional classroom management skills and an ability to create an organized, highly focused, and positive learning environment.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- A collaborative spirit and a commitment to working as part of a dynamic, founding team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Special Education or related field.
- 1+ years of experience in a special education setting.
- Certification in CPI or TACT-2 for crisis intervention.
- Familiarity with IEP management systems (e.g., ESPED).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and student data systems.
