Special Education Lead Teacher

About the Role

Louisiana Virtual Charter Academy (LAVCA) is seeking a Lead Teacher to deliver specific course content in an online environment. This role provides instruction, support, and guidance while managing the learning process and focusing on students' individual needs. The Lead Teacher also serves as a member of the school leadership team, mentoring teachers and supporting virtual academy efforts to improve student performance.

Responsibilities

• Functions as a member of the school leadership team
• Manages, supervises, and/or mentors teachers in the virtual academy, providing coaching and formal evaluation
• Proactively addresses identified needs and supports efforts to improve student performance
• Orients teachers, communicates requirements, sets and enforces deadlines, maintains regular office hours to support teachers and students
• Understands how diverse and unique characteristics of students and their families impact required support
• Learns the entire K12 curriculum for assigned grade levels and demonstrates knowledge of how state standards align with it
• Augments course content according to prescribed policies and procedures using appropriate asynchronous and synchronous tools
• Takes ownership for students' academic progress and attendance, communicates high expectations, and shows active interest in student achievement
• Supports teachers with curricular and instructional issues, balancing curriculum flexibility with Academy policies and procedures
• Focuses on ongoing tasks/projects related to managing school operations such as: recruiting/interviewing teaching candidates; training new teachers; implementing teacher evaluation processes; assisting with student-teacher matching; maintaining uniformity among teaching procedures; developing and implementing school policies/procedures; acting as a curriculum expert for a grade level/series of grade levels; coordinating aspects of testing readiness; assisting teachers in addressing low attendance and progress issues; preparing regular reports/facilitating communications; and assisting with marketing events
• Assists with development and implementation of all policies and procedures related to teaching and learning
• Helps develop and implement a data-driven program design that has synergy with K12 curriculum
• Collaborates with peers to provide a positive experience for students
• Assists with ensuring direct reports meet all standards and expectations
• Assists with promotion of professional development through implementation of Data Driven Instruction
• Assists with development and dissemination of "best practices" in the virtual school setting
• Plans and implements data-driven professional learning activities
• Works collaboratively with others to achieve school performance goals
• Serves as a liaison between parents, teachers, and the school administrative team
• Presents and leads various school department/team meetings
• Travels to, participates in, and presents at regular staff meetings and professional development sessions
• Maintains records regarding students in accordance with school policy and state requirements; prepares reports regarding students and classroom matters as directed

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in education or related field AND three (3) years of successful teaching experience including experience as a virtual teacher OR equivalent combination of education and experience
• Appropriate state Department of Education Special Education Teaching Certification required
• Knowledgeable of state and charter school law and regulations
• Knowledgeable of the State Performance Standards
• Demonstrated leadership skills
• Exceptionally strong verbal and written communication skills
• Strong organizational skills
• Experienced in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and able to learn specific student management system(s)
• Ability to pass required background check
• Ability to travel up to 20% of the time for training, professional development, meetings, etc.

Work Environment

This position is remote and strongly prefers candidates that reside in Louisiana. Must be able to attend in-person professional development sessions, testing, and other school events. This is a full-time position requiring ability to work independently, typically 40+ hours per week, with a professional home office without distraction during the workday (typically 9-5 or 8-4, or as defined by the school).

Pay

Salary range: $53,101.00 - $66,376.00. Eligible employees may receive a bonus. Offers are typically in the bottom half of the range, with compensation varying based on geographic location, experience, training, education, and local market conditions.
