About the Role

Assist the teacher in providing education and instruction to students with behavioral and/or emotional disabilities at the middle school level.

Responsibilities

  • Assist special education teacher in helping students with behavioral and/or emotional disabilities
  • Listen to students read, and read to students
  • Help students with make-up work
  • Assist in individual or group activities, games, flash cards, computers, etc.
  • Assist students in interpreting and following directions of teacher
  • Reinforce social skills the teacher has taught
  • Alert teacher to needs of students
  • Assist teacher in checking progress of individuals
  • Supervise lunchroom, playground, halls, classrooms and other assigned activities
  • Assist with the physical and health needs of the children
  • Inventory books, materials and equipment
  • Assist when emergencies arise
  • Perform other delegated responsibilities assigned by teacher or administrator

Requirements

  • High School Diploma
  • First aid/CPR certificate desired

Qualifications

  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Skills in organization, leadership and human relations
  • Visual and auditory skills for dealing with students
