About the Role
Assist the teacher in providing education and instruction to students with behavioral and/or emotional disabilities at the middle school level.
Responsibilities
- Assist special education teacher in helping students with behavioral and/or emotional disabilities
- Listen to students read, and read to students
- Help students with make-up work
- Assist in individual or group activities, games, flash cards, computers, etc.
- Assist students in interpreting and following directions of teacher
- Reinforce social skills the teacher has taught
- Alert teacher to needs of students
- Assist teacher in checking progress of individuals
- Supervise lunchroom, playground, halls, classrooms and other assigned activities
- Assist with the physical and health needs of the children
- Inventory books, materials and equipment
- Assist when emergencies arise
- Perform other delegated responsibilities assigned by teacher or administrator
Requirements
- High School Diploma
- First aid/CPR certificate desired
Qualifications
- Effective oral and written communication skills
- Skills in organization, leadership and human relations
- Visual and auditory skills for dealing with students
