Special Education Early Childhood Teacher Half-time Standard

About the role

A special education teacher under the supervision of an administrator will design and implement lessons aligned with Common Core State Standards and Individual Education Plans (IEPs).

Responsibilities

• Administers appropriate district curriculum and designs lessons aligned with Common Core State Standards.
• Develops and implements coherent, differentiated instruction and assessments for diverse learners.
• Provides appropriate instructions, modifications, and adaptations as outlined in IEPs.
• Analyzes student progress and ensures compliance with assessment regulations.
• Maintains accurate records and IEPs as mandated by state and federal guidelines.
• Communicates learning expectations and engages students in learning activities.
• Utilizes discussion and questioning techniques, embeds assessment in instruction, and demonstrates flexibility and responsiveness.
• Coordinates effectively with other service staff to provide student instruction.
• Works as part of an education/assessment team to identify, develop, implement, monitor, and evaluate individual objectives for assigned students.

Requirements

The ideal candidate must have a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with student teaching experience and the ability to obtain a valid Nevada teaching license. They should demonstrate mastery of content and pedagogy, knowledge of students and resources, typical developmental patterns of students, and characteristics of students with disabilities. They must also possess the ability to establish and maintain a standard of pupil behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.

Qualifications

• Education: Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university with student teaching experience and the ability to obtain a valid Nevada teaching license.
• Knowledge: Child development; behavior and characteristics of students; subject area and/or credential area of teaching; effective teaching skills; planning and organizing; supervision and control; assessment and diagnosis; interpersonal relations.
• Skill: Creating an effective environment for learning, establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with teachers, administrators, counselors, and other staff members; utilizing technology in instruction, planning, data-based decision making, and monitoring of student achievement.

Pay

The salary for this position is subject to adjustment and may increase or decrease each fiscal year. New employees hired by the Washoe County School District are normally placed on the entry step of the grade of the position. View the salary schedules here.
