About the role
The Assistant Principal of Student Services at Brillante Academy leads the vision, implementation, and continuous improvement of special education and student support services on campus. This role manages and develops the Student Services Team, including Special Education Teachers, co-teachers, and related service providers (e.g., SLPs, LSSPs, OTs). Through coaching, observation, and targeted professional development, the Assistant Principal builds the capacity of staff to deliver rigorous and individualized instruction aligned to students' goals.
Responsibilities
- Drive the vision for the Student Services Team (short- and long-term) and partner with families, staff, and scholars to execute aligned strategies that accelerate progress toward Brillante’s ambitious goals for student achievement and character development for ALL students
- Coach, manage, and develop the Student Services Team to deliver strong student outcomes, including progress toward IEP goals for students with diverse learning needs
- Lead the implementation of Brillante’s Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) and use data to ensure all students receive the appropriate level of support and achieve measurable growth
- Execute student services systems and standard operating procedures with excellence to ensure compliance with all state and federal requirements
- Develop and manage the day-to-day operational structures, service schedules, and caseloads needed to ensure effective implementation of special education services across the school
- Collaborate with teachers to design and implement appropriate accommodations and modifications aligned to IEPs, 504 plans, and intervention plans to ensure access to grade-level content
- Serve as a thought partner to general education teachers by attending grade-level meetings, analyzing student work and assessment data, and supporting instructional planning and classroom management strategies
- Conduct regular classroom observations, provide real-time coaching, and deliver actionable feedback that strengthens instructional practice and drives student achievement
- Lead ongoing coaching cycles with special education teachers, including goal-setting, data analysis, and progress monitoring
- Review, provide feedback on, and ensure the quality and compliance of IEPs, progress reports, and all special education documentation
- Serve as the LEA in ARD meetings, facilitate student-centered conversations, and ensure compliance while honoring families as partners and first educators
- Schedule and coordinate ARD meetings, evaluations, and related service delivery, ensuring timelines are met and communication with families is clear and consistent
- Build strong relationships with families through proactive communication, sharing student progress, and providing resources to support learning at home
- Analyze student-level and school-wide data to monitor progress toward IEP goals and adjust instruction, interventions, and supports accordingly
- Support the implementation of Tier 2 and Tier 3 academic and behavioral interventions, including modeling small group, push-in, and pull-out instruction as needed
- Manage and align curriculum and intervention resources to ensure high-quality instruction for students receiving specialized services
- Execute compliance systems and standard operating procedures, including maintaining trackers, overseeing documentation, and ensuring readiness for audits and reporting (including PEIMS)
- Oversee annual reviews, reevaluations, and all compliance-related timelines, ensuring accuracy and timeliness of reporting
- Coordinate with related service providers (e.g., SLPs, LSSPs, OTs) to ensure aligned, high-quality service delivery
- Design and facilitate professional development for staff to build capacity in supporting diverse learners and implementing inclusive practices
- Collaborate with the Principal and Instructional Leadership Team to implement and refine Brillante’s Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS)
- Contribute to school-wide efforts, including school culture, hiring, events, day to day operations (ex. arrival/dismissal), student recruitment, etc.
- Stay knowledgeable on Special Education law and best practices
- Serve as an active member of the leadership team always striving to bring the perspectives of our students, families and staff members to the table
- Contribute to talent efforts (hiring, for example) as our school continues to grow
- Plan time effectively to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines while radically focusing on the highest impact priorities
- Learn and continuously develop your leadership and instructional practice to deepen your impact
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferred
- Current Texas Special Education certification
- At least three years of special education teaching experience with consistently strong student achievement results; experience with early childhood or elementary students preferred
- At least two years of experience coaching and managing others, with evidence of developing others to achieve strong results
- Experience serving on a school leadership team strongly preferred
- Experience leading or supporting campus-level MTSS or RTI implementation preferred
- Verbal and written fluency in Spanish strongly preferred
