Position Purpose
The Special Education Coordinator assists the Executive Director of Special Education in the coordination and facilitation of daily operations of the district special education programs.
Supervision
- Supervise IDEA Compliance regarding Programming, Due Process and Dispute Resolution
- Consult regularly with Administration regarding the monitoring and evaluation of special education personnel, including related services personnel, campus Leads, special education teachers, psych examiners
- Work with related service providers to ensure consistency with documentation and service provision
- Consult as needed with Academic Services Executive Directors regarding the monitoring and evaluation of special education personnel including special education teachers, related service personnel, campus Leads, and psych examiners
- Consult with building teams, including building administration, to problem-solve building special education needs that include student-specific academic or behavior concerns, staffing needs, and/or related services support
- Participate in district Child Find Consultant Teams, locating and identifying students with disabilities
- Consult with special education transition specialist regarding campus transition plans for post-secondary at the Junior High and High School levels
- Consult with the Virtual and Gateway leadership team to ensure compliance
- Consult with area early childhood service providers to coordinate early childhood to school-age transition
- Observe special education classrooms to evaluate the effectiveness of the instructional program including but not limited to self-contained environments
- Provide monthly PLC meetings for the purpose of training, distributing information and evaluating programming as specified by state guidelines, and monthly coordinator meetings
- Provide consultative assistance to regular education specialists and teachers for students with disabilities
- Maintain information, and act as liaison with other public and private agencies and individuals who provide services to students with disabilities
Additional Duties
- Mentor Campus Leads
- Monitor for Accountability the Software Management System. This includes timelines for IEP conferences and evaluations
- Assist in the development and implementation of professional development
- Work with district specialists in developing curricular and behavioral supports for students with disabilities
- Serve on Campus Behavior TEAM, indirectly for Tier I and Tier II, directly for Tier III
- Serve as liaison between special education and administration for master schedule needs
- Build rapport with parent and professional organizations

- Uses standard office equipment such as personal computers, printers, copy and fax machines, and telephone
Travel Requirements
- Frequent district-wide travel with occasional travel outside school boundaries

- Knowledge of best practices in administration, program evaluation and staff supervision
- Ability to effectively communicate in both written and oral formats with students, parents, and staff
- Ability to work with people of various personality types

- Ability to use computer network systems and software applications as needed

Job Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in the Field of Education
- General education and special education licensure preferred
- Arkansas Teaching and Administration Licensure
- Experience Minimum 3 years of Special Education experience in a school setting
