Role Mission

The Special Education Co-Teacher position at IDEA is designed for candidates seeking valuable experience in Special Education teaching, challenging work, and opportunities for career advancement.

• Compensation: Hourly rate ranging from $16.05 to $23.17, paid over a 12-month period.

Qualifications

• Education: At least 48 college hours required, bachelor’s degree preferred.
• Experience: Classroom experience or working with children.
• Licenses/Certifications: Willingness to pursue a Special Education teaching certification.
• Knowledge and Skills: Instructing students, managing student behavior, strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills, ability to adapt to various situations, and assistance with daily living tasks.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the educational and social development of students.
• Aid in implementing Individual Education Plans and monitoring student progress.
• Support individual students inside and outside the classroom.
• Work with other professionals like speech therapists, social workers, occupational and physical therapists.
• Assist classroom teachers with maintaining student records.
• Provide support for students with emotional or behavioral concerns.
• Assist with daily living tasks in the Life Skills Unit.
• May need to accompany students on school buses before or after school.
