Job Title: Special Education Assistant (1:1) [Vision]
About the role
The Special Education Assistant (1:1) [Vision] position at Sanford Middle School supports students with moderate to severe disabilities. The role involves providing direct support to students, assisting staff in educational functions, and maintaining a safe and productive learning environment.
Responsibilities
- Provide support services to children with moderate to severe disabilities
- Aid MPS staff to facilitate educational functions and other services
- Work with students to improve personal skills and reinforce classroom learning
- Affirm positive behavior, conduct individual instruction, and promote socialization and communication
- Maintain student activities, promote respect, explain social norms, and manage disciplinary consequences
- Document behavior, observations, and anecdotal information for SAIL, IEP, and FBA
- Monitor and assist with medication, meal, bus, and class transitions
- Tend to and provide daily hygiene, personal, and health-related care for students
- Support students in community, recreational, school, and vocational training
- Assist students in classrooms and after-school programs
Requirements
- One of the following: Associate’s degree or higher in Education or closely related field
- Completed 90 quarter or 60 semester college credits from an accredited institution
- A passing score of 460 (or higher) on the ParaPro Assessment
- A high school diploma or GED certificate
- Two (2) years of professional experience working with children
Qualifications
- First Aid/CPR/AED, Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) training, and Special Education Orientation within one year
- Ability to frequently lift up to 50 pounds

Pay
Salary range: $27.17 - $30.75 per hour
Schedule
FTE: 79.38 FTE; 31.75 hrs/wk, 41 weeks
