Special Education 1:1 LE Ed Tech II/III - Connors Elementary School

Assists Special Education Teacher in delivery of educational services indicated in students' Individualized Education Plan (IEP) and Positive Behavioral Support Plan (PBSP) within RISE/Day Treatment programs operated by Lewiston Public Schools.

Responsibilities

• Facilitate 1:1, 1:2, and small group instruction while meeting the needs of complex learners, including academic and social opportunities throughout the day (e.g., lunch, recess, hallway transitions, breaks with peers, and transportation).
• Implement and follow an IEP and PBSP.
• Implement de-escalation strategies throughout the day.
• Assist with classroom setup, individual student areas, and preparation of materials for specialized instruction.
• Collect relevant data and perform data entry.
• Assemble and maintain bulletin boards and displays as requested.
• Operate standard school equipment such as computers, laminators, copiers, and audiovisual devices.
• Follow the day-to-day schedule of students.
• Maintain constant attention to students, including:
  • Refraining from cell phone use except during personal breaks.
  • Wearing appropriate clothing (e.g., closed-toe shoes).
  • Following precautions set forth in PBSP and by Special Education Teacher/BCBA/Clinician direction.
  • Remaining calm in unforeseen circumstances.
  • Being mindful of variables that may influence challenging behavior.

Communication

• Written communication: Ensure all written communication is legible, professional, and in the best interest of students.
• Verbal communication: Deliver feedback as a tool to improve skills or increase job knowledge. Follow directions and recommendations from Special Education Teacher, BCBA, Clinician, and school administration.
• Maintain appropriate communication between Education Technicians based on the environment and audience.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Provide instruction in RISE/DT classrooms alongside a Special Education Teacher, working with 1:1, 1:2, and small groups in both RISE/DT and General Education classrooms as indicated.

Requirements

• Three years of postsecondary education and/or accumulation of 90 credit hours of approved study in a related area (or three years of work experience in the field for vocational education). Required for Education Technician III certification by Maine DOE and Behavioral Health Professional (BHP) certification.
• Language Skills:
  • Read and comprehend technical educational instructions, correspondence, and memos.
  • Write simple correspondence.
  • Effectively present information in 1:1, 1:2, and small group settings to students, co-teachers, and other school personnel.
• Mathematical Skills:
  • Perform basic arithmetic operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division) using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Compute mean, rate, ratio, percent, and create bar and line graphs.
• Reasoning Ability:
  • Follow complex educational and behavioral treatment plans.
  • Find solutions within the scope of applicable laws and methodologies (e.g., Applied Behavior Analysis, QBS, Safety Care).
• Previous work in child care and/or education is preferred.
• Ability to develop effective working relationships with students, staff, and the school community.
• Clear and concise oral and written communication skills.
• Awareness of district requirements and School Committee policies.
• Willingness to advocate for the inclusion of RISE students within the General Education setting.

Physical Demands

• Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
• Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to push items weighing 50 pounds (e.g., pushing children on a bike or moving/rearranging furniture).
• Specific vision abilities required: close vision, distance vision, and peripheral vision for reliable data collection.

Work Environment

• Noise level is usually loud but acceptable for the environment.
• Continuous responsibility for the safety, well-being, and work output of students.

Pay

Salary Range: $20.86 - $28.12
