About the Role

The Special Education Para-Educator III provides support to the instructional program under the direction of an assigned teacher, with specific responsibilities for assisting in instruction, behavior support, and supervision of special needs students.

Responsibilities

  • Administers immediate first aid and medical assistance as instructed by a health care professional (e.g., medication) to meet immediate health care needs.
  • Communicates with supervising instructional staff and professional support personnel to assist in evaluating progress and/or implementing IEP objectives.
  • Implements behavioral plans and skilled interventions designed by the IEP team under the supervision of a classroom teacher or service provider to reinforce learning concepts.
  • Monitors students during assigned periods in various school environments (e.g., restrooms, playgrounds, hallways, bus loading zones, cafeteria, parking lots) to maintain a safe and positive learning environment.
  • Provides instruction to students in individual and group activities (e.g., academic subjects, social skills, daily living skills) under the supervision of an assigned teacher and IEP staff to reinforce instructional objectives and ensure student success.
  • Assists students with self-care activities (e.g., toileting, washing, changing diapers, eating, dressing, grooming) to maintain personal hygiene.
  • Lifts up to 50 lbs. to assist special education students.
  • Maintains instructional materials and manual/electronic files/records (e.g., decorating bulletin boards, making art projects, correcting papers) to ensure availability of items and meet mandated requirements.
  • Attends meetings and in-service presentations (e.g., first aid, CPR, emergency procedures) to acquire and/or convey information relative to job functions.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.

Requirements

  • Age 16 or older.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Job-related experience is desired.
  • Specific training may be required.

Pay

Hourly rate: $19.96

Schedule

5.75 hours per day.
