Spark Operator - 3rd Shift

About the role

Judd Wire Inc., a Sumitomo Electric Group company, is seeking an Entry Level Machine Spark Operator for their Turners Falls, MA manufacturing facility. Operating 3rd shift, individuals will perform various duties including measuring, inspecting, testing, and re-spooling wire and cable.

Job Duties

• Evaluate and meet specifications with regard to conductor size, insulation, sparking voltage, repairs, and other details as per factory orders, special customer requirements, and verbal instructions.
• Set up wire or cable on sparking machine, select proper counter eyes, apply prescribed sparking voltage, maintain proper traverse, and operate machine at fastest allowable speed.
• Test wire and small cables at prescribed voltage using a voltage tester, check continuity tester for breaks or shorts, visually examine and inspect wire/cables for defects, identify defective insulation, cut out defective pieces, and use a micrometer to check conductor size and insulation quality.
• Tag reels according to specifications and direct them to the next operation, detect and report any unusual conditions, defective materials, or malfunctions, and maintain equipment and work area in a clean and proper condition.
• Observe safety regulations and demonstrate ability to cross-train on other machines throughout the plant.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED.
• Knowledge of ordinary arithmetic including decimals, fractions, and simple use of specification and adjustable measuring instruments.
• Willingness to learn and work in a team environment.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule and handle moderate physical effort, including moving, lifting up to 50 lbs., and standing for long periods.

Physical Qualifications

• Moderate physical effort consisting of frequent moving, average weights, lifting up to 50 lbs., pushing, pulling, etc.
• Continuous mental and visual attention to repetitive work, requiring constant alertness or activity.
• Exposure to noise, fumes, dust, hot and cold temperatures, and other working conditions.

Pay and Schedule

Hiring range: $19.28-22.91/hour, with a 3rd shift differential of $3.00/hour.
