About the Role
Under the general supervision of the School Principal, this position develops students' knowledge, skills, and abilities in comprehending, speaking, reading, and writing Spanish, while fostering an understanding and appreciation of the cultures of Spanish-speaking countries.
Responsibilities
- Develop and administer a foreign language education curriculum consistent with school district goals and objectives.
- Promote a safe and conducive classroom environment for individualized and small group instruction.
- Create lesson plans and instructional materials that translate into engaging learning experiences, challenging students and optimizing instructional time.
- Teach Spanish language skills, including comprehension, grammar, syntax, sentence and paragraph structure, composition, vocabulary, proper word usage, colloquialisms, communication, and translation of literature.
- Develop student understanding and appreciation of the cultures and mores of Spanish-speaking countries.
- Prepare materials for literary publications, contests, and similar activities with students.
- Conduct ongoing assessments of student learning and progress, modifying instructional methods to fit individual needs, including those of students with special needs.
- Acquire professional knowledge and stay current with developments in the educational field through seminars, workshops, professional meetings, or research.
- Maintain accurate and complete records of student activities, achievement, and attendance as required by district procedures and applicable laws.
- Encourage parental involvement and ensure effective communication with students and parents.
- Establish and maintain standards of student behavior to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.
- Coordinate with other professional staff members, participate in faculty meetings, and serve on committees.
- Select, requisition, and maintain inventory of appropriate books, instructional aids, supplies, and equipment.
- Perform other related tasks as assigned by the Principal or central office administrators.
Requirements
- Minnesota State Certification as a foreign language teacher in Spanish.
- Motor Vehicle Operator's License or ability to provide own transportation.
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in an education discipline applicable to teaching.
- Master’s Degree in a related area preferred.
- Successful prior foreign language teaching experience is a plus.
Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of current teaching methods, educational pedagogy, and differentiated instruction based on student learning styles.
- Proficiency in Spanish, including grammar, word usage, denotations, connotations, and literature.
- Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis, and action plan formulation.
- Familiarity with applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.
- Ability to use computer network systems and software applications as needed.
- Strong organizational and coordination skills.
- Effective communication with students and parents.
- Ability to engage in self-evaluation regarding performance and professional growth.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others.
Physical and Mental Demands
Works in standard office and school building environments.
Pay
Starting salary range: $51,970 - $93,753 per the Teachers Master Agreement.
