Job Description / Essential Elements:
SECONDARY CLASSROOM TEACHER – FOREIGN LANGUAGE
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Teaches skills and knowledge in foreign language instruction to secondary pupils utilizing appropriate learning activities. Modern foreign language teachers (French, German, Spanish) teach aural comprehension, speaking, reading, and writing. Latin teachers (if subject is offered) concentrate primarily on the study of syntax, morphology, and vocabulary, with emphasis on reading and translation of classical literature.
Provides effective learning experience, utilizing techniques which develop the basic communication skills. Utilizes tape recorders and other electronic equipment as appropriate.
Instructs students in care and safe operation of electronic equipment used in foreign language instruction. Requests repairs as required.
Develops pupil understanding and appreciation of culture of countries where foreign language is spoken.
Evaluates each pupil’s progress in aural comprehension, speaking, reading, and writing the foreign language in relationship to the level being taught, and prepares progress reports.
Creates (with assistance of pupils, if desired) bulletin boards and other displays of materials to motivate language learning.
Develops weekly lesson plans and supplementary materials compatible with the basic instructional philosophy and curriculum of the District.
Provides students with the opportunity to partake in daily patriotic observance. Education Code 52720.
Monitors classroom environment to ensure clean and safe conditions exist, notifying principal of any unclean or unsafe classroom conditions.
Monitors classroom activities making students responsible for putting materials, supplies, tools, etc., safely and neatly away at the end of the class session.
