About the Role
Under the general supervision of the School Principal, this position develops students' knowledge, skills, and abilities in comprehending, speaking, reading, and writing Spanish, while fostering an understanding and appreciation of the native cultures of Spanish-speaking countries.
Responsibilities
- Provides supervision of students in educational settings.
- Plans daily classroom instructional activities and maintains daily student attendance.
- Communicates with parents, teachers, administrators, and related service providers as needed.
- Serves on teams and committees as required.
- Maintains proper certification through professional development.
- Develops and administers foreign language curriculum aligned with district goals.
- Creates a safe, conducive classroom environment for individualized and small group instruction.
- Designs lesson plans and instructional materials, translating them into engaging learning experiences.
- Teaches comprehension, grammar, syntax, composition, vocabulary, and literature in Spanish.
- Fosters student appreciation of cultures in Spanish-speaking countries.
- Prepares students for literary publications, contests, and related activities.
- Assesses student learning and progress, adapting instruction for individual needs, including special education.
- Maintains accurate records of student activities, achievement, and attendance.
- Encourages parental involvement and ensures effective communication with families.
- Establishes and maintains classroom behavior standards for a functional learning environment.
- Coordinates with staff, participates in faculty meetings, and serves on committees.
- Selects and manages instructional materials, supplies, and equipment.
Requirements
- Minimum Bachelor’s Degree.
- Indiana teaching license in Spanish with High School setting endorsement.
- Excellent communication and team skills.
- Strong organizational abilities.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of current teaching methods, differentiated instruction, and educational pedagogy.
- Proficiency in Spanish grammar, vocabulary, literature, and cultural context.
- Familiarity with data information systems, analysis, and action planning.
- Understanding of applicable federal and state education laws.
- Ability to use computer network systems and software applications.
- Strong organizational and coordination skills.
- Effective communication with students and parents.
- Commitment to self-evaluation and professional growth.
- Ability to build cooperative working relationships.
- Prior foreign language teaching experience is a plus.
Schedule
- 181-day contract.
- Ten (10) sick leave days and five (5) personal leave days.
