Spanish Professional Medical Interpreter (40 hrs/days) (Temple University Hospital)

About the role

The professional medical interpreter facilitates linguistic and cultural communication between patients seeking health care services and providers of clinical and supportive health care services. This includes spoken and written language needed in the health care environment. The interpreter abides by a professional code of ethics.

Responsibilities

• Function in the capacity of Linguistic Services Coordinator as needed.
• Under limited supervision, receives requests from providers, processes and arranges interpreter services.
• Tripses and prioritizes scheduling requests for service according to established protocols.
• Deploys staff interpreters and arranges for vendor interpreters to fill requests.
• Captures interpreter assignments for TUH, Episcopal, TUP, Jeanes, Fox Chase Cancer Center, and TPI.

Requirements

• Must pass medical interpreter certification test within 6 months of hire.
• Assists with training and coaching of new professional medical interpreters and dual role medical interpreters both in the classroom setting and in observations in clinical settings.

Qualifications

• Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent Required
• Experience: Bachelor's Degree Preferred, 1 year experience as a formally trained, tested medical interpreter Required
• General Experience: Communicating in English and target language (Bilingual) Required, In Healthcare Required
• Licenses: Certified Medical Interpreter Preferred, Healthcare Interpreter Preferred
