Spanish Language Educator

Part-Time Job Summary The Spanish Language Educator will strive to ensure that the museum and its programs are accessible, welcoming, and engaging for children and families. As part of the education team, this position will primarily focus on presenting tours and programs for our school-age visitors and their families. A good fit for this position is someone with excellent communication skills and adaptability who is not afraid of getting messy. The Spanish Language Educator’s will work as part of the education team responsible for facilitating our First Sunday Spanish programming which takes place on the first Sunday of each month from 11:00AM – 4:00PM. This role includes the facilitation of student-led story hour from 11:00AM – 12:00PM, implementation of our hands-on studio from 12:00 – 4:00PM in our Child HELP Gallery, as well as pop-up art talks taking place within the museum’s galleries throughout the day, all of which are facilitated in Spanish. This position reports to the Curator of Community and Academic Programs and will work closely with the Child Education Specialist as well as the rest of the Spanish language team. Essential Functions Facilitate our First Sunday Spanish program, including story hour, studio workshops, and pop-up talks in Spanish.Assist in the editing of our Spanish-language family guides, i-spy pages, and other educational tools.Engage and educate children, students, and families about various art styles, techniques, periods, artists, exhibitions, and pieces in the collection through tours and hands-on activities.Gather and prepare materials for the educational programs which you are leading.Memorize and present tour and workshop curriculum.Attend occasional on-site programs.Other related duties as assigned. Skills And Experience Enjoys working with children and families1+ years of visitor/guest services experience.Applicant does not need to have museum or art-teaching experience but must have a basic understanding of art materials and art in general/demonstrate a desire to work in the art field with a community service-driven mindset and the creativity to flourish.1+ years working with youth or the general public.Highly energetic with a positive attitude that is creative and resourceful.Ability to interact effectively and appropriately with diverse group of colleagues and visitors.Ability to make thoughtful decisions in a fast-paced environment.Ability to lift up to 25lbs unassisted.Must work independently with moderate supervision.High School diploma. WORK SCHEDULE This is a part-time, at 10 hours per month and is required to work the first Sunday of each month. The scheduled hours are 10:00AM – 5:00PM on the first Sunday of the month in and a 4-hour training period will be scheduled monthly. Extra hours may be available related to Spanish language school tours, special event coverage, or translation editing. PAY RATE: $15/hr.
