Spanish Analytic Linguist
About the Role
Metlang, a veteran-owned provider of interpretation, translation, and monitoring services to the law enforcement community nationwide, is seeking a Spanish Analytic Linguist. Since 1990, Metlang has been the nation’s leading provider of these services to the United States Department of Justice. We employ bilingual professionals with advanced or expert level fluency in over 100 languages and dialects. This role assists law enforcement with investigations into narco-trafficking, counterfeiting, terrorism, fraud, and money laundering.
Responsibilities
- Monitor: Listen to or read foreign language communications and type summaries into English.
- Transcribe: Render spoken language into written form of the same language.
- Translate: Render spoken or written language into written form of another language.
- Interpret: Translate orally, either consecutively or simultaneously, from source to target language.
- Analyze: Examine information methodically for explanation and interpretation.
Requirements
- Ability to commute between Salt Lake City and Taylorsville, UT.
- Clear, concise, effective written and spoken communication in English and Spanish.
- Ability to summarize and translate audio and text, including slang and colloquialisms, in real time.
- Prior interpreting and/or translating experience in a professional or personal setting.
- Task prioritization with attention to detail and organization.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, social media, and text message terminology in English and Spanish.
- Typing speed exceeding 40 words per minute.
- Ability to adapt under pressure and work cohesively in a team.
- Availability for a rotating schedule.
- Must pass language tests in English and Spanish (writing, reading, listening, speaking) or provide prior test results.
- Availability to work full-time locally and travel outside the area for extended periods is a plus.
Qualifications
- Applicants must pass a Government security background investigation and meet eligibility and suitability requirements.
Physical Demands
The role requires the ability to talk, hear, see, sit for extended periods, use hands and fingers for keyboarding or phone use, stand, walk, reach, climb or balance, and stoop, kneel, or crouch. Reasonable accommodations can be made for individuals with disabilities.
Pay
$37.18 per hour.
