Space RCO Systems Engineer

About the role

MTSI is seeking a skilled Systems Engineer to support the development of first-of-kind space vehicles and missions. In this position, you will provide System Engineering Technical Assistance (SETA) to the Space Rapid Capabilities Office (RCO), a small, streamlined organization at Kirtland AFB, NM. The Space RCO delivers operationally dominant space capabilities at the speed of warfighting relevance for classified space programs. You will work in a highly empowered team, directly contributing to the success of the program with responsibilities spanning space-rated cryptographic and communications hardware/software, subsystem integration, and rapid development.

Responsibilities

• Support design, interpretation, and analysis of technical solutions for complex projects.
• Lead or support technical programs, projects, or tasks requiring engineering oversight, ensuring completion within estimated time frames and budget constraints.
• Provide input to the government customer on risks to performance, schedule, and budget.
• Ensure program, project, or task deliverables meet or exceed standards and assess them for warfighting relevance.
• Perform engineering research, design development, and assignments in conformance with customer specifications.
• Coordinate with multiple partners/agencies to support delivery milestones.
• Track and advise on design trades and their cost, schedule, and technical impacts to requirements.
• Develop and supervise requirements from project inception to conclusion for complex programs.
• Provide strategic advice, technical guidance, and expertise to program and project staff.
• Analyze, evaluate, and recommend improvements for mission-critical challenges.
• Consult with clients to define needs or problems, supervise studies, and analyze data to recommend solutions.
• Communicate technical information clearly and accurately, both orally and in writing.
• Perform other duties as required.

Requirements

• Minimum five (5) years of DoD/IC or relevant industry work experience.
• Skilled in development and fielding of cryptographic and satellite communication systems.
• Understanding of the space operational environment and mission user needs.
• Knowledge of space mission payload engineering, development, and manufacturing.
• Experience in DoD program management, including program development and transition.
• Experience with Integrated Master Schedules and risk management.
• Experience with Statements of Work (SOW) and Performance Work Statements (PWS).
• Active TOP SECRET clearance with sensitive compartmentalized information (SCI) and special access program (SAP) eligibility (minimum two (2) years total SAP and/or SCI environment experience, with 1-year total within the last 5 years).
• Willingness to submit to a Counter-Intelligence polygraph.
• Must maintain a TS/SCI clearance as a condition of employment.

Qualifications

• An applicable engineering degree from an ABET-accredited program or a Professional Engineering license.
• Relevant MA/MS/ME degree (desired).

Desired Skills

• Five (5) years of relevant DoD and/or industry work experience with SAP/RSV and/or SCI.
• Experience as System Engineering Technical Assistance (SETA) to a Government program office.
• Experience with rapid prototyping.
• Experience with integrated air, space, and cyberspace capabilities.
• Experience developing, deploying, and maintaining ground mission planning architecture and software.
• Experience with ACAT I/II level acquisition programs.
• Experience in planning and executing test campaigns for space systems.
• Fluency with IC organizations.

Location & Travel

Work will be based at the MTSI office in Beavercreek, OH, with up to 30% travel within the continental United States.
