Space Mission Deputy Project Manager
Position Overview
The Space Telescope Science Institute (STScI) is seeking a Deputy Project Manager to support the JWST Project Manager and Mission Head in managing the JWST Science and Operations Center. The mission office is responsible for leading STScI work on the mission, including the development and utilization of the science and operations systems, execution of the science program, and operation of the JWST observatory.
Responsibilities
- Focus on the management of the Science and Operations Center development and sustaining engineering work, interfacing with the engineering teams and coordinating their activities to successfully deliver integrated system builds in accordance with the integrated master schedule.
- Working with science operations management to ensure that the system capabilities satisfy the operational needs.
- Managing the S&OC build/release process.
- Aiding with contract proposal development and negotiations.
- Interfacing with STScI IT services to ensure that the IT infrastructure continues to satisfy the needs of the mission.
Qualifications
- An advanced engineering degree in systems engineering, aerospace engineering, or a related field.
- At least 10 years of experience managing NASA space-related engineering projects.
- A solid technical background with work experience including familiarity with space science missions, observatory science and flight operations, ground systems, spacecraft operations, and software development, integration, and testing.
- Demonstrated knowledge of project management practices; PMP certification desired, but not required.
- Demonstrated leadership qualities.
- Experience managing large engineering and science teams.
- Experience with resource management and planning.
- Experience with proposal development and negotiations.
- Experience working on NASA missions.
Requirements
Candidates must reside in or be willing to relocate to the local area (MD, DE, VA, PA, DC & WV). This position requires US Citizenship or Permanent Residence in order to meet ITAR requirements. The annual salary range for this title is $185,000 - $210,000. The posted salary range represents a general guideline; however, STScI considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers, such as internal pay equity, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate's experience, education, and skill, and current market conditions.
